December 2008

Sorry I’ve been away for such a long time! During the time that passed, I went on vacation in Massachusetts, bought some new James Patterson and Stephen King books, watched the new James Bond film, and much more!

I have to get going, but tomorrow, when I talk to you, I will tell you all about what I did last year and what I plan to do for the new year!

May 2008

Wow, look at all the time that has passed since January. I forgot to update this page every month, so that is my excuse. I have been very busy reading and writing and right now am writing a detective novel. I bought dozens of new books since January and have read them. My two favorite authors are Mary Pope Osborne and James Patterson. I like their novels a lot.

I hope you take time to look at the blossoming trees and colorful plants. My room smells like lilacs right now, because I have a big jar of them. I think I might pick new ones today, because these on my desk look king of droopy.

I will see you in June of 2008. Then I will hopefully tell you about upcoming books by Osborne and Patterson and lots of others, and especially what I am doing. So have a great time waiting for me to write again and keep reading and writing!

January 2008

Hello again! I can’t believe we went all the way through January 2008. Now it’s February. There is not much news, except that I am working on three books right now, but really only focusing on two of them: A sequel to Samantha Higgins titled “Justice” and a science-fiction book taking place on Mars.

Everything is good here at my house. I just finished cleaning my writing desk, which holds my first Higgins manuscript, some more papers, tissues, a birdhouse, a lamp, and some pictures from many years ago, one from 1999.

In my February report, I am going to let you know about everything I did for February, and what I got for my birthday. Today is February 2, 2008, when I am writing this. My birthday is in 25 days.

See you soon!

December 2007

HI! AS you know today is Christmas Eve, and I decided not to do this tomorrow because of the bustling morning, or busy morning, excuse me. I’m opening presents, giving presents, and posting another blog here, so to save me some time and keyboarding energy tomorrow I am doing this today. If you have read my November report I said that I was going to buy Snakehead and The Nixie’s Song. To be honest with you, I didn’t buy any, but rented them at the county library. Right now I’m about on page 100 in SNAKEHEAD, and I finished NIXIE’S SONG the day I got it. Now let me tell you about the book i am writng.

Adventures of Samantha Higgins is coming along nicely, and I am right now on page 145. aI decided to take a break from writing that and do this. How nice of me! I just got past the part where John Higgins dies and Grandma Shirley and Samantha go up north to Portland Maine to visit their great-grandmother Hulda. Today I hope you maybe finish writing the book, so myabe later I can update this post. Keep checking. I will keep the text the same but at the top in bold write my little message.

Please check www.marypopeosborne.net to see Mary’s newest post titled JAPAN, where she tells about her book touring in Japan. She met an indigo dyer, many fans, and brought home some soveniers like chopsticks, fans. But this is so wierd. Her post showed up yesterday, and guess what: It was written on November 26! How do you think that is? She wrote the post near the end of November and it showed up yesterday, near the end of December.

Now I’ll end my report. See you at the end of January 2008!

November 2007

Hello again! Even though it’s November 28, and I noted how I was going to do the monthly update in two more days, but now seemed a good time for some reason. My progress on the book is good, and I have renamed it to  Adventures of Samantha Higgins. This title seemed better than my older one. Anyway, I am back from a week or so of traveling, and have posted my last two entries sitting in Connecticut. But now I’m back. The page I’m writing right now in my book is page 128. But there have been some major changes in the book you need to know about. Instead of working in a coal mine, Samantha meets up with a group of seven other people and goes to spin cotton and wool in the historical mill in the old 1800s town Rio Mills. Even more exciting, Samantha flees Virginia but soon returns to find her father. This part is exciting. And I have changed the time 1872 to 1866, because the book will drag on past December, and I have to tell you that I have planned out the three parts of the book, and it has been an exciting experience. Samantha and her Dad once she finds them travel to Pennsylvania and then become slaves in Georgia picking cotton and tobacco plants. Let me get on to other things beside writing.

My Thanksgiving was good and I enjoyed Halloween much. My costume was a doctor and the costume itself was provided by my great-aunt Betty who is a nurse in New York at a hospital. For Thanksgiving I gave evetyone a lesson on the Pilgrims and talked about the Wampanoag, Squanto, and it was really fun explaining how the indians grew corn, by cutting the fish heads off and placing them in the soil with the corn seeds. The corn would be used as a type of fertilizer.

Now I’m excited because the following books just released and I just have to buy them and read them.

  • Snakehead  by Anthony Horowitz
  • The Nixie’s Song  by Holly Black and Tony DiTrilizzi

Okay, so see you at the end of December, and maybe if you’re lucky on DEcember 25 along with my planned post I could post a new December 2007 thing here, so we’ll see. Howdy!

Best wishes from the major blogger, Chris Ka

October 2007

Even though it’s October 22, I thought that it’s close enough to the end of the month so that I should write my monthly report. Let me start off by telling you some bad news: I have abandoned the murder mystery with the detective Grandma Shirley. Instead, I’ve turned to a new writing project—a novel—about a ten-year-old girl named Samantha Higgins, whose dad is called away to war, and she must find a job working in a coal mine with dirty and nasty people in order to support her family. The year this book takes place actually has two times. In the beginning of the book, the year is 1865, but there’s a few sections to the book. In the third section, which is about a hundred pages in, the year turns to 1872. This book is tentatively called With a Dad At War.

My writing times are every day. When I get home from school, I write. After I finish my homework, I write. On weekends, like Saturday and Sunday, I write all day. But I make some time for reading. I’m reading some junk literature now that I should never have started. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, to name one. Absolute garbage.

Next month, in November, I will write all about my progress on this book in the old days, and maybe if you’re lucky, I will share an excerpt with you.

Best wishes,

Chriska

September 2007

This month has been really busy, filled with exciting new adventures, especially school and social events, but most of all blogging. Every month I’m going to be posting a message about what I’ve done for that month, and I figured the first month in a new school year would be the best time to start.

This month, I entered fifth grade. It’s really fun, and my teacher is Mrs. Leppert (I’ve had her before in second grade), and my other teachers are all nice and friendly. I’ve been buying and reading great books, like Swordbird, Ark Angel, Eragon, Eldest, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Wind in the Willows. But I’ve also been writing.

My current novel in the works is a murder mystery, taking place in New York City, Canada, and a couple other fun places. Grandma Shirley is the detective. Well, that’s about it for the month of September.

Don’t forget to check out this site in a month for my message about October 2007.
